I feel confident with teaching all of the consuming standards, since I was seeing and using them throughout pretty much my entire K-12 learning experiences. I feel the most confident with the standards 'RL.7 “Multimedia:” Literature,' because I feel that is the standard I used a lot more in the AP English classes I took, as well as in my film and acting classes. I feel I might struggle teaching the producing standards, because I feel like some of those might be harder for students to catch onto, and may take a longer time to teach since all kids learn at different paces.
I want to teach kindergarten, so it will be difficult to integrate a lot of technology into my lessons. However, I do want to use the learning apps that would supplement their learning. I would also use TeacherTube to show them videos that would also help with their learning. I myself would like to use websites like ClassDojo and Classroom 2.0 to help with classroom management and with making sure my lessons are fun for the students. And to communicate with parents, I would use emailing, mailing lists, and video conferences to make sure I am always in contact with parents. The only digital citizen concepts I will really be able to use are having students to begin to demonstrate their understanding of technology skills and the internet, start to find information by asking questions and using the apps, and preparing them to be digital citizens and learners. I would love to start addressing all of the concepts to my students, but I feel like most of them will be too hard for them to understand at the age they will be.
I really liked the Newsletter Design assignment. I thought it was a fun way to get us to really think as teachers, and use the skills a teacher is actually going to need to know. The new skills I learned was how to format a webpage, how to shade, how to add hyperlinks, and how to make a permission slip. Next time, I can probably improve my articles a little more, but I feel like that will be easier to do when I am actually teaching because I do not have to make things up, like the field trip or what my students are learning. I believe I can use this assignment in the future when I do become a teacher because it is a good, easy way to keep parents up to date with what is going on in the classroom and in the school.
